Installing a skill

Install a skill with the one-line install prompt from its page, or attach the SKILL.md or copy it into the folder yourself, then confirm it works.

Updated

The easiest way: one install line

  1. If you don't have Aside yet, install it first: Install Aside
  2. Copy the install line at the top of the skill's page.
  3. Paste it into Aside chat. Aside fetches the file from the skill page and installs it.
Install the skill at asideskills.com/skills/<slug>

Always read the SKILL.md on the skill page before installing. Skills are instructions that change how Aside behaves.

The steps below cover installing by attaching the file yourself.

1. Install Aside

If you don't have Aside yet, install it first: Install Aside

2. Download SKILL.md

On the detail page of the skill you want, open Other ways to install and click Download SKILL.md. Open the downloaded file and read through it once.

3. Install it from an Aside chat

Attach the downloaded SKILL.md in an Aside chat and paste the sentence below. Replace <slug> with the folder name shown on the skill's detail page. (The detail page also has a ready-to-copy version with the name filled in.)

Install the attached SKILL.md as my Aside skill. Name the folder <slug>.

4. Confirm the install

Ask Aside:

Can you use the <skill name> skill?

If Aside says it knows the skill, it's installed. From then on, just make requests that match the situation described in the skill's description.

Adding it to the folder manually (optional)

Instead of installing through chat, you can place the file yourself. Aside reads skills from this location inside your account's data folder:

skills/user/<slug>/SKILL.md
  • We recommend using the folder name (<slug>) exactly as shown on the skill's detail page.
  • The file name is SKILL.md, in uppercase.
  • The exact location of the account data folder depends on your operating system and how Aside was installed.

If the skill isn't recognized

CheckWhat it should be
File nameSKILL.md (uppercase)
Location<slug>/SKILL.md: the file must be inside a folder
HeaderThe block wrapped in --- contains name and description
